Translating and interpreting as a social practice is now increasingly determining daily routines in a globalising world. This volume deals with the most significant questions of translation sociology as a new field of research in translation studies. The contributions show the social implications of translating and interpreting in various fields: translation trends between individual cultures, the social construction of images through translation, ideological restraints of translation production, the powerful relations between the actors in the translation process and finally the instances involved in the creation of translations.

Michaela Wolf is professor at the Department of Translation Studies, University of Graz, Austria. Areas of teaching and research interest are translation sociology, cultural aspects of translation, translation history, postcolonial translation, feminist translation.
