Klappentext
This book is devoted to the question of incorporation of labour migrants from three migrant-sending countries of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in Russia. The research results draw on the primary field data gathered among hard-to-reach and `hidden' populations of Moscow including undocumented migrants and female migrants, who are systematically lost by definition and largely underrepresented in social integration studies. The author concludes that even in the context of a pervasively hostile receiving environment, labour migrants develop different propensities towards social integration into the host society, including an assimilative attitude, shaped by individual migration motivations, backgrounds and fears.

Trained as a peace and conflict analyst and research methodologist, Aikokul Maksutova is an active researcher from Kyrgyzstan who advocates socially inclusive and gender sensitive approaches to social research in Central Asia.
