This study deals with the roman provincial governors at work during the Principate (27 BC-AD 235) and the role they played in the process of municipalization of Hispania. Due to their official powers (based on the imperium and a higher iurisdictio) and social status, the senators who governed the spanish provinces were the most important agents of the Roman Empire in the peninsule and this study analyses the way in which the imperial power used them to implement their political decisions in the provinces, strengthen links with the local élites and supervise the stability of provincial communities, specially the coloniae and municipia.
