Universal social protection in health is a main challenge for most countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This Handbook of Micro Health Insurance in Africa focuses on the relatively new and promising approach of micro health insurance as a tool between market, self-help, and state, aiming to reduce poverty, to combat social exclusion and to improve access to health care for low-income households.
