This volume is a collection of articles based on presentations given at the conference "Slavic Languages in Migration". Language is a vehicle for cultural and literary efforts, and almost all the papers in this volume emphasize the rich culture sustained by Slavic languages. As global boundaries become more permeable due to the internet and the ease of language transmission, cultural traditions of home countries and countries of migration are likely to intertwine and enrich each other. But this is not something that can happen overnight.

Michael Moser is professor of Slavic linguistics at the Institute for Slavic Studies of the University of Vienna, the Ukrainian Free University in Munich and the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest and Piliscsaba.

Maria Polinsky is professor of linguistics at Harvard University.
