According to the view taken in the papers included here, application is an essential stage in the process of Konkretisierung of law and necessarily rests on interpretation and argumentation. It may, therefore, be regarded as the right theme to start enlightening the structure as well as the role interpretation and argumentation in the legal field in comparison with that of philosophy. Schwerpunkt von Ars Interpretandi 1996 ist das hermeneutische und rechtsphilosophische Problem der Anwendung. In den Beiträgen dieses Jahrgangs wird hervorgehoben, wie Anwendung mit Interpretation und Argumentation unabdingbar zusammenhängt und in welchem Sinne sie ein wesentliches Moment der Rechtskonkretisierung darstellt. Diese thematische Leitlinie ist der Erhellung der Struktur wie auch der Rolle der Rechtsauslegung und -argumentation im Vergleich zum philosophischen Bereich gewidmet.
